Ths is a memorial of the people that fought in world war 1. All the names on this memorial were the people that lived in the area of Woodstock at the time of the war. This memorial was built around the year 2000.
Goodness Oscar, there are a lot of people from woodstock on there. How far away is this from where you live. If you have a piece of paper and a crayon you could do a crayon rub. Chris
Hi Oscar. This memorial must be very near to the Woodstock Pub. How long does it take you to walk there? What other information did you learn from reading the memorial? I can see that some of the family names are written more than one time. What do you think this means? At the top of the memorial it says 'these boys of our Woodstock School'. Do you know where the Woodstock School used to be? That would be interesting if you could do some research and let me know. Mrs Phelps
Hi Oscar There are a lot of family names I recognise from around Hokitika. I wonder if these people are related? If you do some research on Woodstock school it would be interesting to know how many students were at the school. Woodstock must have been a much bigger place if they had their own school. I wonder how big the town was and why there was another town so close to Hokitika? Do you know much about the history of Woodstock? Perhaps you can find out. The West Coast is full of really interesting history and you can find lots in "papers past', you can find all the old Guardian newspapers. They are really interesting to read.
